What’s On – Friday 25th June

Message from Mrs. Castell

Dear Parents

What a wonderful visit we had from Night Owls yesterday! I'm sure the children have already told you all about it, but they were absolutely enthralled by the owls flying across our hall and were fascinated to learn all about them. A proof copy of your child's photograph with Whisper the Barn Owl will be sent home today. If you would like to order the photo, please return cash or cheque payment in the envelope provided by Monday 5th July.

The chicks and ducklings continue to bring joy to the whole school, we can't believe how much they've grown since they hatched! They will be re-homed within our school community over the coming week.

Year One had a great sports morning on Wednesday. I appreciate how difficult it has been for parents not to attend, but we ensured the children were well supported with everyone cheering them on. We have taken lots of photos and awarded medals and certificates. EYFS are hosting their sports morning as I write and Year Two hold theirs next Thursday.

On Monday morning at a briefing for over 250 Essex headteachers, the Director for Public Health underlined that schools should not host events that might enable further mixing of households. Infection numbers continue to rise in school communities, so the clear expectation is to minimise contact for the remainder of term. Sadly this means we are unable to mix our Year Two children for a leavers disco, as the guidance states that we should avoid hosting large gatherings indoors for more than one bubble. However, our wonderful WISPA committee are funding a magical treat outside for each Year Two class bubble. More details of this and our leavers assemblies will be published next week, once I receive further guidance from Essex County Council.

The final day of the summer term for all children is Friday 16th July. There are three INSET days the following week, during which staff will undertake training and prepare the school for September.

Regards
Helen Castell

Another fun packed week has whizzed by! We are sure the children have made you aware of the 3R’s this week; Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. They researched facts and used them to make information leaflets. If your children have anything to do with it, the future of the world is in safe hands. We had a virtual trip around the world as part of our ‘Great Bread Bake Off’, product testing and tasting breads from around the world. We learnt some fascinating facts and obviously enjoyed the tasting!

We said farewell to our lovely chicks this week, they have been re-homed to a wonderful family within our school community, so a big thank you to them! This week we finished off our speed stack challenge and enjoyed practising for our sports day. We LOVED the owls visit and we were amazed when they flew just above our heads! The children were all really brave as they had their photo taken with an owl. The ducklings have been so much fun and we loved watching them run around our carpet and having a bath! We are keeping them for a couple of weeks and then one of our teachers is taking them to her Dad, who already has lots of ducks! Thank you WISPA for funding this wonderful experience for our children.

Have a lovely weekend.
