Weekly News – Friday 10th May

Dear Parents,

It's been a short week but after a typical Bank Holiday Monday, it has been lovely to see the children enjoying the sunshine. Please remember sunhats and sunscreen, as we have very little shade in the playground.

Sporting Success

The 3 Tees Cricket final will be held at Paradise Park next Tuesday morning. A team of Year 2 children will represent the school and they will probably hear our cheers from up the road! We are already proud of our cricketers for doing so well to get us to the final and we wish them the very best of luck for Tuesday. All the Year 2s will get to take part in a sporting competition against other schools on Wednesday 5th June, when they attend the Mini Games at Chelmsford Sport & Athletics Centre.

Reading Books

Following your incredibly generous response to the sponsored Reading Challenge, we have ordered more reading books for the school this week. The children will use these in their daily reading sessions and they may also be sent home. Can we ask you again to take very great care with our reading books, as they are expensive and we are seeing quite a lot of water damage from water bottles in book bags.  Many books have also not been sent back to school, so we'd be really grateful if you could please check at home and return any that are missing.

Forest School

Mrs Winsley and Mrs Stobbie have been very busy this half term, giving Forest School lessons to every Year 1 and 2 class each week. They would love some more equipment if you are able to offer any donations. Plants for pots and hanging baskets, seeds and compost would all be really welcome, although no spare flower pots please, as they have loads already! They would also be very grateful for old gardening tools if you have any, they do not need to be child-sized. Thank you so much for your support.

School Uniform

Our uniform supplier One Stop Schoolgear has published information today about ordering school uniform for the coming academic year. Please take a look as we know it is a busy time of year for them.

Finally, keep an eye on ParentMail over the coming days, as we will be sending information about each year group's summer day out and also some FREE courses for parents in both First Aid for children and also Maths for this age group. Watch this space!

Make the most of the sunshine this weekend!

Best wishes

Tracey Wilson

Highlights of the week

Year 2

We have introduced the term, unit and non unit fractions, worked hard on our phonics and spent time working in the Year 2 garden by planting some seeds and seedlings. We also went on a Bug Hunt!

Year 1

We have been marvellous mathematicians this week, learning about early multiplication, doubling, arrays and counting columns and rows in 2s, 5s and 10s. We became cartographers and created our very own moon maps. In Geography we looked at compass directions and went on to add symbols and a key to our maps.

Keeping Children Safe

  • Emergency contact details must be up to date. Please email us at parents@writtleinfantschool.com if your details have changed.
  • Any food brought to school must not contain nuts or egg-based foods (e.g. egg mayo, scotch egg, omelette etc.).
  • We all have a duty to safeguard the children in our care. If you have any concerns about a child, please contact the school, the Chairs of Governors (if your concern is about a member of teaching staff), or the Essex Child and Families Hub on 0345 603 7627.
