Weekly News – Friday 24th May

Dear Parents,

We have some very excited children in school today, and the weather is perfect for WISPA's Inflatables Afternoon. We hope the children have a wonderful time, it's a great way to begin the half term break. Thanks to WISPA for organising this event, we know it takes a lot of hard work to put it together.

It's been a busy week, with Year 1 and Year 2 celebrating their last Forest School lesson of the year and the whole school taking part in maths activities to celebrate National Numeracy Day on Wednesday. To practise maths at home, remember the White Rose 1 Minute Maths app is a brilliant way to improve your children's fluency and confidence with their maths. Can I also remind you all of the free maths course for parents which will take place over two Wednesday afternoons, on 5th and 12th June. This will take you through how maths is taught at Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) and every parent who completes the course receives a £10 Amazon voucher.  Please sign up here or speak to the office if you want to find out more information.

Goodbye Miss Oscroft!

We were sorry to say goodbye to Miss Oscroft today, as her training with us has come to an end. She has been a real asset in our school, working across many different classes, so we are delighted to see that she isn't going too far away. She has secured a new job at The Duckling Nursery, so she will be looking after our future intake and the many children who visit the breakfast and after school club. Congratulations to her on her new role.

The Duckling Nursery Contact Details

Contact details for The Duckling Nursery will change after half term, so please delete any previous numbers you may have for them. From Monday 3rd June, all calls should be made to the following number during working hours: 07359 754682. You can also email the nursery at enquiries@ducklingnursery.co.uk.

School Uniform

Our uniform supplier One Stop Schoolgear has published information today about ordering school uniform for the coming academic year. Please take a look as we know it is a busy time of year for them. A reminder that our Lost Property box in reception is used to store any missing items. We suggest you use the half term break to ensure all clothing and footwear still fits and is labelled.

Messy Church this Sunday

It's Messy Church on Sunday morning, when the focus will be on recycling. I know they would love to see as many faces as possible, so do try and get there if you can. We know that the road closures for Ride London might keep you in the village, so it's a good way to occupy the children!

After Half Term

A few notes for after the half term break! There will be no more Forest School lessons for Year 1 and 2, but Foxes and Squirrels will have their turn. Details have been sent to you by ParentMail. Clubs will run from the first week back, except Spanish lunchtime and afternoon club. Cricket club will be available at lunchtime to anyone who would like to attend, and Miss Wakeling is also running a Euro 2024  football competition at lunchtimes.  The Year 2 children will all attend the Mini Games on Wednesday 5th June, and trips have been planned for each year group. Again, information has been sent to parents today via ParentMail.

Wishing you all a restful half term break. Please remember we have a Non-Pupil Day on Monday 3rd June, so we will see you in school again at 8.40am on Tuesday 4th June.

Best wishes

Tracey Wilson

Highlights of the week

Year 2

There's been more fraction action in year 2 this week, along with lots of fun number problems for National Numeracy Day. The children have also learnt about King Charles III and written a diary entry as if they were a King or Queen - lots of red ribbons were cut! They have also been tending to our Year 2 garden and keeping everything growing and healthy!

Year 1

This week we finish off our topic, we made a story map and wrote the story of The Marvellous Moon Map. We also enjoyed drawing bear from the story.

EYFS

The children loved National Numeracy Day. We played a huge range of maths games from Connect 4 to Addition Bingo. The children have continued to play them independently every day since!
