Weekly News – Friday 13th September

Dear Parents

It’s been lovely to have a full-house this week! Our Foxes and Squirrels started full time on Tuesday and they continue to amaze us with their confidence and the way they have quickly adjusted to their new routines. They are already playing in the big playground at lunchtime and loving seeing their friends and siblings in older year groups. Many thanks to our Year 2 children who have been special helpers, taking care of the younger children and helping them at lunchtime.

Topics this half term

Mr Taylor and I are frequently popping into classrooms during the week, where we are always welcomed with enthusiasm! Sometimes we have to remind Mr Taylor to be on his best behaviour and not to distract the children by juggling fruit, or pulling funny faces . We have reminded him to be a good role model! We are delighted to see that the children are already inspired by their topics this half term. Year 1's topic is "This is Me" and Year 2's is "London's Burning!". We also saw Year 2 produce some great pieces of art, inspired by American artist, Charles McGee. More information about the half termly topics will be sent home on Monday.

Year group curriculum meetings

Our year group meetings for Year 1 and 2 will be held next week, on Monday and Wednesday respectively. These are short introductions to give you an insight into the year ahead. Please come into the hall after dropping off your child, we will finish by 9.30am. Thank you for letting us know via ParentMail if you’re coming. If you can’t attend, we will publish information on our website.

It was great to see so many EYFS parents at our coffee morning on Tuesday, thank you for coming! Your introduction to the curriculum will take place on Tuesday 1st October at 1.30pm, when you will also have the opportunity to visit the classroom. We are also running some free courses for EYFS parents, to introduce you to how maths is taught for this age group. Details have been sent home to you via ParentMail - there is a £10 Amazon voucher for everyone who completes the course!

Year 1 and 2 Clubs/Piano

All Year 1 and 2 clubs are running next week, so please make sure you know the collection arrangements for your child. Details of our teacher-led clubs were sent home today. Piano lessons also start next week.

Road Safety/Travel to School

The Essex Road Safety Partnership are delivering an assembly to Foxes and Squirrels parents next Friday, with the children joining in later on, so that we can all reinforce the message about keeping children safe on or near the road. As we said last week, we do ask all parents to be considerate when parking around the school so as not to block access for pedestrians or residents. The roadworks around the school appear to be starting soon, so please keep an eye on the roadside signs and make extra time for your journey as we are anticipating some traffic jams!

Wrap up for autumn!

The weather has definitely taken a turn this week, so please make sure your children wrap up warm for outdoor activities and Forest School lessons. Children do need a coat in school every day. Our list of daily essentials is published below.

Enjoy the weekend.

Best wishes

Tracey Wilson
