Year 2 Spelling Practice

Dear all,

Please see below the list of ‘tricky’ word spellings that will be included in next Friday’s spelling dictation lesson. Any assistance you can give your child to help them learn these words would be greatly appreciated.

In School we use strategies such as:
* Look. Say. Cover. Write. Check – the chn will attempt to spell the word correctly 3 times in a row
* Mnemonics (a rhyme to help assist memory) e.g. Big Elephants Can Always Understand Small Elephants to spell the word because or Oh U Lovely Duck to help remember the ould in would, should, could
* Words inside words, such as here inside where and sentences to aid such as, ‘Where is it? It’s over here.’ This helps the children to (eventually) remember that there is an ‘h’ in the word ‘where’ and the sound /air/ and that in ‘were’ there is no letter /h/ and the sound is /er/

Words: could, would, should, was, they, asked, our, are, because, were, where
Challenge words: dragon, rare, fantastic

Thank you for your continued help and support.
