Weekly News – Friday 14th March

Dear Parents,

Our Forest School lessons extended beyond the school gates this Thursday, as Parrots class helped to fill the new planters for Long Brandocks which have been provided by Writtle Parish Council. We planted them up with primulas and lavender on the school grounds, before carefully transporting them to their new home along the grass verges. We hope that they will brighten up your journey to school, the local residents certainly enjoyed seeing the children and came to admire their hard work!

Red Nose Day - Friday 21st March

Next Friday we will be supporting 40 years of Comic Relief - their Ruby Anniversary! Children are invited to dress down in something red in exchange for a donation to this amazing charity.

Important Reminders

There are no staff clubs next Thursday afternoon (Music, Drawing and Mindfulness), as the teachers are attending training sessions. Please ensure you have made alternative arrangements for childcare from 3.10pm. Football club will still be running.

Please check our timetable for details of Forest School and PE lessons. As the weather is still unpredictable, it’s vital that your child has the appropriate clothing and footwear on these days.

School Nurse Appointments

The school nurses are available in our library every Tuesday afternoon.  Please take a look at the flyer to see the list of health concerns they can help with and then book your appointment online.

Community Events

We've added to our Community Links page once again, as there are lots of exciting events and resources for the Easter holidays, including the Easter HAF holiday clubs for eligible children. For children starting school in September, the Transition Roadshow at Galleywood Infant School on 20th March should be very useful and will be attended by some of our teaching staff. We are looking forward to the next fundraising ice hockey game featuring Miss Wakeling on Saturday 22nd March as well as Messy Church on Sunday 23rd March.

Have a good weekend.

Best wishes,
Tracey Wilson

Highlights of the week

EYFS

This week we have been learning all about Spring - and we have experienced first hand how cold it can still be in Spring! Despite the cold snap, we have still had lots of outdoor fun and have been getting the garden ready for some new planting. We have continued our revision of phase 3 words and sounds in phonics. The children have also really enjoyed maths this week, exploring number 7 and thinking about different amounts that combine together to make 7.

Year 1

Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed going on a treasure hunt to find money this week! They have learnt to recognise 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2.

Year 2

This week, Year 2 have been learning about the importance of exercise, eating healthy and hygiene. We've also used our knowledge of multiplication representations to work on our 2-times-table and have continued looking at Pip and Egg in depth. Our music festival practice is now well underway too!
