Weekly News – Friday 28th March

Dear Parents

I’m sure we’ve all enjoyed the sunshine this week, it finally feels like Spring is in the air! The daffodils are looking majestic along the path to school and we are celebrating traditional Springtime events with the PTA’s Someone Special gift shop today and our celebrations for Easter next week. The classes have begun to decorate Easter eggs to display around the village in the PTA’s annual Easter Egg Hunt. As ever we are incredibly grateful for their hard work to raise funds for the school, which enables us to offer all children additional experiences and resources that we otherwise would not be able to provide.

Last weekend

It was a pleasure to see so many parents and pupils from our school at two events last weekend. The local ice hockey derby between the Chelmsford Chieftains and Miss Wakeling’s Romford Buccaneers was hugely popular, with 60 pupils from the Writtle schools attending and cheering on the teams. This raised another £180 for our school which is a fantastic amount! Sadly the Buccaneers were pipped at the post in the final seconds of the game, but they all played so well and were buoyed by the raucous support from the Writtle crowd! Miss Wakeling will again be representing Team GB at the World Championships in Dumfries next week: she takes with her our very best wishes for a successful campaign! Messy Church on Sunday morning was the second extra-curricular event of the weekend, with many pupils and parents enjoying the craft activities. Reverend Tony reminded us of the importance of love, care and nurture for everyone around us.

Our Litter Muncher, George!

Events this week

The classes have been very busy this week with a multitude of events. Our Squirrels and Foxes welcomed Advent Dental Practice to talk to the children about the importance of brushing our teeth. Lots of children had their teeth checked and we are delighted to say that they are all much more aware of how to look after their oral health! Year 2 has had a packed week! They gave a brilliant performance of “The Litter Muncher” with other schools in the Chelmsford Infant Music Festival at New London Road on Tuesday afternoon. It was lovely to see so many parents in the audience. The following day they immersed themselves in the Victorian era, spending the day in a Victorian classroom with a complete change of furniture, display boards and timetable! The children were amazing and played their role brilliantly. I am very glad that rules and procedures are a little more forgiving and less somber these days! Thanks to you all for your help with providing some incredible costumes for both events, the children looked amazing!

Reminders for next week

As advised previously, our usual schedule has changed next week. The PE days for Year 1 and 2 are as follows:

  • Year 1 PE: Monday 31st March & Wednesday 2nd April
  • Year 2 PE: Monday 31st March & Tuesday 1st April

Most clubs have now finished for the term, but yoga (Monday) and gymnastics (Tuesday) continue to next week. Please ensure your child is collected on time.

Clubs and Forest School

Our wonderful cheerleaders impressed the rest of the school with a performance in yesterday’s assembly. They have been practising their routine at our lunchtime Cheerleading club which has been a great boost to their confidence and ability. We look forward to Cheerleading returning in the second half of the summer term, where they will prepare a performance for the Summer fete. Clubs run by our teaching staff will not start until 1st May, so we will invite you to book these when we return to school on 23rd April. The new clubs timetable will be published next week, so that you can book onto clubs run by our professional coaches over the Easter holidays.

Forest School for Year 1 will end next week, with Foxes and Squirrels starting their lessons after Easter. Piano lessons will continue for those children who already receive tuition from Bonnie. There is a space available so if any Year 1 or Year 2 child would like to take up lessons, please contact the school office.

Have a lovely weekend, let's hope the sunny weather continues!

Best wishes,

Tracey Wilson

Forest School

On Tuesday we cleared the pond area and were very happy to see the ducks return, as well as our very own frogspawn! We are very excited and will all be looking after the pond. We challenged the children to design a floating duck house and will try and make it into our own Duckingham Palace.
On Thursday we went into the field to do yoga, mindfulness and walked bare foot on the beautiful grass to feel grounded and relaxed. We haven’t felt grass for a very long time between our toes. We also made some beautiful artwork using daisies, which you may see around the school.
Thank you so much to Longacres Garden Centre who have donated 90 plants to the school! We have really enjoyed potting up the primroses!

Keeping Children Safe

  • Thanks to those parents who have supported us in protecting the children’s privacy by waiting on the path by the main entrance until 3pm.
  • Emergency contact details must be up to date. Please email us at parents@writtleinfantschool.com if your details have changed.
  • Any food brought to school must not contain nuts or egg-based foods (e.g. egg mayo, scotch egg, omelette etc.).
  • We all have a duty to safeguard the children in our care. If you have any concerns about a child, please contact the school, the Chairs of Governors (if your concern is about a member of teaching staff), or the Essex Child and Families Hub on 0345 603 7627.

Highlights of the week

EYFS

The children were very excited to be visited by Brooke and Stacey, who work in a dentists surgery in Chelmsford. The children have been making full use of the garden area and planting seeds. Have a lovely weekend!

Year 1

This week we have listened to the poem ‘Rock Pool’ and thought about what Anna and the crocodile saw when they were in the underwater cave. We made a poem up together as a class and then wrote our own. We also drew some pictures of what they saw!

Year 2

It's been an exciting and busy week for Year 2! We've crafted beautiful Mother's Day cards, performed at the Music Festival, spent a whole day experiencing life as Victorian school children, and even made delicious fruit kebabs! Well done, Year 2 – you've handled everything brilliantly!
